Health and Human Services

The Health and Human Services facet was established in response to the chronic health disparities that persist in African-American communities and other communities of African ancestry. Through this facet, the Metro-Manhattan (NY) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated supports and facilitates programs that promote awareness, prevention, and access to care across Harlem and greater New York City. Our programs address both physical and mental health through a culturally responsive lens, collaborating with local organizations and healthcare leaders to meet the needs of our community.

Highlights

Black Family Wellness Expo:

In partnership with the Greater New York (NY) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, we co-hosted the Black Family Wellness Expo, which provided a day of education, on-site screenings, and empowerment to over 500 community members in Harlem. Medical professionals and wellness experts led group workshops and panels on topics including chronic disease prevention, mental and maternal health, and healthy lifestyle tips, providing actionable tools to help families thrive.

Black Maternal and Mental Health Advocacy

Recognizing the disproportionate impact of the maternal health crisis on Black women, the Metro-Manhattan (NY) Chapter has hosted powerful and timely panels on Black maternal health. These forums created space for honest dialogue and education, featuring OB-GYNs, doulas, mental health professionals, and advocates who shared resources and strategies to protect and support Black mothers. We have also led conversations on mental health and the emotional well-being of Black women and families—topics often overlooked but deeply vital.

Walk for Healthy Living

Each year, the Metro-Manhattan (NY) Chapter proudly participates in The Links, Incorporated’s National Walk for Healthy Living. This initiative encourages physical activity and community connection while promoting civic engagement. In past walks, we’ve integrated voter registration efforts and visited historic landmarks to honor the legacy of Black excellence and resilience.
